It is the most important medieval German heroic epic poem, the ultimate myth of the Germans. There is practically no other work that has so successfully survived the test of time as The Song of the Nibelungs has. In 2009 it was declared a UNESCO Memory of the World document.
Visitors to the museum learn about this classic of world literature in a highly unusual but very convincing and enjoyable way. The unknown poet takes you on a journey through history, art and literature. His narrative starts with events in the 5th century that form the basis of the myth, gives information about his work as a poet in the 12th and 13th centuries, and also takes in the eventful and at times very dark history of the impact that the legend of the Nibelungs has had up to the present day.
